A book that made you cry
The book that first comes to mind is Black Beauty but I haven’t read that since I was child. Other than that there isn’t many because I tend to avoid sad stories where possible as they greatly effect my mood. I don’t think this one made me cry and I haven’t read it in years but the most depressing story I’ve read has to be Valley of the Dolls which follows the lives of 3 women through careers, relationships and addictions. It is a pretty unsettling story which at times is dreadfully sad, you just keep hoping for a happy ending but unfortunately there isn’t one. Oddly enough though it is still on my favourite books list and if you haven’t read it and like true to life stories and don’t mind unhappy endings I would definitely recommend it.
So what books do you find upsetting?

As you have written it is not possible to resume one’s own pleasure in only one book, so I had to write a long list to just start to mention my delight in them!
But you asked and I will tell you a secret kept in my mind for many years now, I love, and I read several times one book by James A. Michener, its title: The Source.
It is a book inside a book, inside a book, many times: it start with a Tell in Israel, (you know one of those excavation done by archaeologist) and they find several levels down the pit, starting with the first appearance of an object at a very low level… immediately, Michener tells a story about that, then they go up the pit to the next level and lo! other object start a new story… and so on up to actual pit level!
Simply a wonderful collection of stories across the millenniums to our days!
Absolutely absorbing and compelling!
Being a book about Israel history it is bound to speak about God and Faith, but Mr. Michener is a master to keep all that subordinated to the stories!
A great book! Maria!

This actually sounds like the type of story I enjoy, though there is not much I would not read I especially love fictional books that integrate historical fact with a story its been years since I have picked up such a book. On the plus side as well it sounds complicated I like reading a few books like this because it keeps my mind working. Thank You for telling me about it, I have not read a book in tooooooo long this is a good excuse to start reading again
Now off to hunt it down on Amazon
