Your Favourite Book

Its so hard to choose just one book so I’m going to choose a series of books instead:

Discworld by Terry Pratchett

Discworld is a comedic fantasy series set on a flat world balanced on the back of four elephants (previously five according to legend) atop a giant turtle.

‘Great A’Tuin’ by Paul Kidby

I love this series so much as it always has me laughing usually from the first page one of the main reasons being that through Terry Pratchett’s Discworld he sheds new light on many things in our own world and very often highlights the absurdities we live with and don’t usually question. Whenever I read a Discworld novel I always learn something new or see something in a new way which to me is the number one reason for reading. I first discovered Discworld through the PlayStation 1 point and click adventure games that my father played and when I discovered it was adapted from a series of books I was over the moon especially as I couldn’t play the game myself ( I could never work out what to do next). I had soon read the whole series and now pre-order every new novel, I’m currently waiting for the newest one to arrive “I Shall Wear Midnight”.

So what is your favourite book?

A book that made you cry

The book that first comes to mind is Black Beauty but I haven’t read that since I was child. Other than that there isn’t many because I tend to avoid sad stories where possible as they greatly effect my mood.  I don’t think this one made me cry and I haven’t read it in years but the most depressing story I’ve read has to be Valley of the Dolls which follows the lives of 3 women through careers, relationships and addictions. It is a pretty unsettling story which at times is dreadfully sad, you just keep hoping for a happy ending but unfortunately there isn’t one.  Oddly enough though it is still on my favourite books list and if you haven’t read it and like true to life stories and don’t mind unhappy endings I would definitely recommend it.

So what books do you find upsetting?
